Ex-PetroVietnam Chairman Dinh La Thang faces more charge

Police on January 20 launched criminal proceedings against Dinh La Thang, former Chairman of the Vietnam National Oil and Gas Group (PetroVietnam), for his suspected violations regarding the Petrochemical and Bio-Fuel JSC – a subsidiary of this group.

Hanoi (VNA) – Police on January 20 launchedcriminal proceedings against Dinh La Thang, former Chairman of the VietnamNational Oil and Gas Group (PetroVietnam), for his suspected violationsregarding the Petrochemical and Bio-Fuel JSC – a subsidiary of this group.

Thang, born in 1960, is investigated for thecharge of “violating regulations on investment in construction structures,causing serious consequences” under Article 224 of the Penal Code.

The same day, the Ministry of Public Securityalso launched criminal proceedings against and searched the house of Tran ThiBinh (born in 1958, former Deputy Director General of PetroVietnam) for thesame charge. She is also banned from leaving her residential place.

This was the latest move by police while probinginto “violations of regulations on investment in construction structures,causing serious consequences” relating to the Phu Tho ethanol factory of thePetrochemical and Bio-Fuel JSC.

The case is still under investigation.

In 2018, Thang was given a total of 30 years inprison for his involvement in two other cases at PetroVietnam.-VNA
