EVNTelecom joins 3G service market

The EVNTelecom under the Electricity of Vietnam Group (EVN) launched its 3G service on June 9, becoming the fourth 3G provider after Vinaphone, MobiFone and Viettel.

With the service, EVNTelecomsubscribers will have faster Internet access.

Thecompany’s service is also compatible with all cell phone models with 3Gin the market.

According to Director Pham Duong Minh,EVNTelecom’s 3G services will focus on populated cities, such as Ho ChiMinh City, Hanoi, Hai Phong, Da Nang and Can Tho.

Towiden the service-coverage area, the company has invested in theinstallation of an additional 5,000 3G base-transceiver stations (NodeB) for the second phase, Minh said.

On the occasion,EVNTelecom signed a contract of special 3G general agent withElectricity and Telecom Payment Solutions Joint Stock Company, ECPay, acomprehensive cooperation contract with ASUS computer group and aframework agreement on providing value-added service on 3G network withVTC Digicom.

So far, EVNTelecom has developed nearly 2,500Node B stations, covering 46 percent of the population. It plans toincrease the figure to 7,500 one year after launching 3G service./.
