Hanoi (VNA) – A ceremony was held in Hanoi on March22 to mark the World Water Day and start the Vietnam International Water Week,aiming to raise the public’s sense of responsibility towards the protection,sustainable exploitation and development of water resources.

Minister of Natural Resources and EnvironmentTran Hong Ha said Vietnam has the 15th biggest population in the world, andtwo-thirds of them reside in the basins of the Red, Mekong and Dong Nai rivers.

In recent decades, Vietnam has worked hard toimprove water supply for residents in both urban and rural areas and promotepeople’s participation in river basin management.

He added the country has stepped up surveyingsurface and underground water resources, exploring water sources formountainous areas or regions with water scarcity, and seeking smart solutionsfor water governance and protection.

In response to the World Water Day (March 22),the Vietnam International Water Week 2019 was opened with the aim of learningfrom other countries’ experience in smart water governance and improving publicawareness of efficient water use.

This is also a chance to enhance cooperation inwater resources with partners and businesses in Vietnam and other countries toboost the development of the water industry in Vietnam.-VNA

♐ Vietnam contributes to international court's advisory opinion on climate change

As a key member of the core group of 18 countries, initiated by Vanuatu, Vietnam engaged in advocating for the UN General Assembly’s Resolution N.77/276, requesting for the ICJ’s advisory opinion. Following the resolution's adoption, Vietnam fully participated in all procedural steps for the first time, from submitting written proposals to presenting directly at the court’s hearings.

🥂 Hanoi to roll out policies supporting green transport transition

Under the plan, from 2025 to 2026, the city will complete mechanisms and policies to support businesses in switching to green vehicles, expand the electric and green-energy bus network, and build charging stations. The targeted proportion of green buses is set at 10% in 2025 and 20–23% in 2026.
