Numerous high-capacity electricity stations have recently been installedin many southern islands as part of efforts by the Southern PowerCorporation to ensure sufficient electricity supply for the islands inthe region.

A 110kV transmission station with a capacity of80MVA, almost four times the current demand, has been installed on PhuQuoc Island in the southern province of Kien Giang in anticipation ofsurging local electricity demand as the tourism industry is booming inthe island.

The Power Company in Kien Giang has also completed a22kV grid providing electricity for Kien Hai Island. Power consumptionon the island is only 0.5 MVA, easily met by the 2-MVA installedstations.

In a bid to guarantee electricity supplyin Phu Quy Island, Binh Thuan province’s Power Company repaired twodiesel engines at the Phu Quy diesel-power plant together with themedium-voltage grid and Long Hai stations 2 and 3. Additionally, twopower generator units have just become operational to contribute to theregional supply.

Furthermore, the Electricity of Vietnam (EVN)and Southern Power Corporation agreed to implement an 11.5 million USDproject to enhance diesel power and upgrade the power grid system in PhuQuy Island to meet demand and support socio-economic development by2020.

Meanwhile, additional power generators wereadded to the system on Con Dao Island to augment its electricalcapacity. Ba Ria-Vung Tau Power Company will devise plans to maximizethe operation of electrical generators to leverage their capacity.-VNA
