Efforts to search for, repatriate martyrs’ remains stepped up

HCM City (VNA) – The Steering Committee onSearch and Repatriation of Remains of Fallen Soldiers (Steering Committee 515)of Military Zone 7 reburied 580 remains of martyrs during the 2016-2018 period,heard a conference in Ho Chi Minh City on November 29.
Major General Tran Huu Tai, Vice Chairman of the PoliticalDepartment of Military Zone 7 and standing member of the Steering Committee515, reported that in the 2016-2018 dry seasons, the zone’s competent forcesrepatriated 743 remains of Vietnamese soldiers who died in Cambodia duringwars.
During the first phase of the 2018-2019 dry season, 110remains of Vietnamese martyrs in the neighbouring country were brought home, hesaid.
Major General Nguyen Minh Hoang, Vice Political Commissar ofMilitary Zone 7 and head of the Steering Committee 515, stressed that thesearch and repatriation of martyrs is the political task of the entire Party,army and people.
He asked units and localities in Military Zone 7 to completeprofiles of martyrs, make search and repatriation maps, and contact with domesticand foreign war veterans who used to fight in the localities to ask forinformation about martyrs.
Colonel Nguyen Xuan Yem, Deputy Chief of the Department ofPolicies under the Ministry of National Defence, applauded achievements in thesearch and repatriation of martyrs performed by units and localities inMilitary Zone 7.
He urged the Steering Committee 515 to pay special attentionto the information work and improve the efficiency of the search andrepatriation.
In the 2019-2020 period, the committee together with unitsand localities in Military Zone 7 are expected to search for and repatriate2,390 remains of martyrs, and instruct competent forces to bring home 748remains of Vietnamese martyrs in Cambodia.
On this occasion, the Military Zone 7 High Command presentedcertificates of merit to 33 collectives and 64 individuals with outstandingperformance in the work in 2016-2018.-VNA
A military funeral was held by the authorities of central Thua Thien – Hue province on May 11 to rebury remains of 11 Vietnamese voluntary soldiers and experts who died on duty in Laos during the wartime.
The Central Highlands province of Kon Tum held a memorial service and re-buried 16 sets of remains of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and experts who laid down their lives during wartime in Laos and Cambodia.
The southern province of Long An on July 25 held a ceremony to commemorate and rebury the remains of 25 Vietnamese volunteer soldiers who laid down their lives during the wartime in Cambodia.
