Dong Nai: 20 stand trial for social disturbance

The People’s Court of Bien Hoa city in the southern province of Dong Nai on July 30 began a first instance trial of 20 defendants on the charge of disturbing public order under Item 1 Article 318 of the Penal Code.

Dong Nai (VNA) – The People’s Court of Bien Hoa city in the southernprovince of Dong Nai on July 30 began a first instance trial of 20 defendantson the charge of disturbing public order under Item 1 Article 318 of the PenalCode.

These defendants were accused of taking advantage of theNational Assembly’s discussions of a draft Law on SpecialAdministrative-Economic Zones and the Law on Cyber Security to cause socialdisturbance.

According to the indictment, in the afternoon of June 10, thedefendants occupied roadways and blocked vehicles on National Highway 1A, PhamVan Thuan and Duong Tu Giang streets in the city, leading to serious trafficjams.

They ignored police officers’ request to dissemble, andjoined about 200 others to disturb public order, causing negative impact onsocial order and safety in the locality, and traffic congestions for two hours onthe national highway and another two hours on the streets.

In addition, several people distributed bread, water,banners and flags to protestors.

At 4 pm the same day, the defendants were arrested by BienHoa police.

The trial is scheduled to close on July 31.-VNA
