Diplomats of Vietnam, Japan seek ways to beef up cooperation at multilateral forums

Hanoi, (VNA) – Deputy Ministerof Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son on October 29 met with Japanese Ambassador toVietnam Yamada Takio in Hanoi to explore how to beef up ties between the twocountries and cooperation at multilateral forums.

Ambassador Yamada said the government of Japan and Prime MinisterSuga Yoshihide held in high regard the outcomes of the PM’s official visit to Vietnam last week. Noting that Vietnam wasselected as the Japanese PM’s destination on his first overseas trip, theambassador said hopes the two sides willcontinue closely coordinating to effectively implement results of the visit.

Deputy FM Son highlyspoke of the strong growth of the Vietnam-Japan strategic partnership,particularly the success of PM Suga’s visit.

Vietnam’s Ministry ofForeign Affairs and other ministries and agencies will closely work alongsidethe Embassy of Japan and Japanese partners to translate agreements reachedduring the visit into reality, he said.

He went on to suggest thetwo sides to take measures to boost comprehensive cooperation in the comingtime and step up bilateral and multilateral efforts to respond to impacts of COVID-19.

The two sides agreed to furtherstrengthen cooperation at regional and global forums, such as the UN,Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum and Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM).

The Japanese diplomatappreciatedVietnam’s role as Chair of ASEAN this year and coordinator of the ASEAN-Japanrelations, saying he will continue partnering with Vietnam and partner countries to ensure thesuccess of the 37th ASEAN Summit and related meetings, including the 23rdASEAN-Japan Summit, which Vietnam is hosting in November.

Both sides alsohighlighted the results of the implementation of the Comprehensive andProgressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) after the tradedeal took effect a year ago and agreed to make the most of the deal to recoverthe economy amid COVID-19./.
