Seoul (VNA) – Deputy Prime Minister Trinh Dinh Dung met with the head of the EconomicDevelopment Cooperation Fund (EDCF), the President of the Republic of Korea(RoK)-Vietnam Friendship Association and leaders of several major RoKcorporations in Seoul on December 4.

The Deputy PM ispaying a visit tothe East Asian nation from December 2-6.

During his meetingwith Kim Tae-soo, head of the EDCF, Dung affirmed that the RoK is a leadingpartner of Vietnam, noting that it is the largest investor in, and secondbiggest provider of official development assistance (ODA) for Vietnam.

He spoke highly ofthe role of the EDCF in cooperating with Vietnam to effectively implement ODAprojects, especially in infrastructure development, bringing practical resultsand contributing to Vietnam’s socio-economic growth.

He asked the EDCFto continue working closely with the Vietnamese side to implement theassistance funds, worth 1.5 billion USD, over the 2016-2020 period.

In response, theEDCF leader said the fund will push for the provision of preferential loans forVietnamese and RoK firms to carry out public-private partnership projects inVietnam.

At the meetingwith President of the RoK-Vietnam Friendship Association Choi Young-joo, DeputyPM Dung hailed the organisation’s contributions to the countries’ friendshipand cooperation, as well as its efficient partnership with the Vietnam-RoK FriendshipAssociation.

He urged Choi Young-joo,who is also a successful entrepreneur in Vietnam, to encourage RoK firms toseek investment opportunities in agriculture and new spheres of potential inVietnam.

Dung also proposedthat the association continue to support the Vietnamese community in the RoK,and particularly Vietnamese brides.

At the receptionfor leaders of Hyundai Motor, Lotte, CJ, and Hyosung, the Vietnamese Deputy PM affirmedthat the Vietnamese Government will further improve the business climate andcreate optimal conditions for foreign investors, including those from the RoK.

Dung expressed hishope that RoK businesses will expand investment in fields that Vietnam hasdemand for and that the RoK boasts strength in, thus balancing trade relations.

The RoK firms appreciatedthe Vietnamese Government’s efforts to improve the investment environment and vowedto boost investment in Vietnam in the coming time, notably in infrastructuredevelopment, logistics, manufacturing, automobile, agriculture and foodprocessing, and biotechnology. –VNA
