Hanoi (VNA) – Deputy Defence Minister Sen.Lieut. Gen. Nguyen Chi Vinh hosted a reception in Hanoi on October 14 for outgoingUK defence attaché Col. David Houghton and his successor Col. Beatrix V.H.Walcot.
Vinh said Vietnam and the UK have fostered long-standingfriendship and all-around cooperation, including in defence, especially sincethe signing of the Memorandum of Understanding on bilateral defence cooperationin November 2011.
He thanked the UK Defence Ministry for assisting Vietnam inlaunching a Level-2 field hospital in South Sudan and training, especiallyEnglish language, for officers to the United Nations peacekeeping mission.
In order to develop bilateral defence ties into a pillar inVietnam – UK strategic partnership, Vinh suggested facilitating all-levelvisits, particularly high-level ones, to raise mutual understanding andcollaboration./.
The second defence policy dialogue at the deputy ministerial level between Vietnam and the UK took place in Hanoi on September 30 under the co-chair of Vietnamese Deputy Minister of National Defence Sen. Lt. Gen. Nguyen Chi Vinh and British Minister of State for Defence Baroness Goldie.
A Vietnamese delegation led by Secretary of the Party Central Committee and head of its Commission for Internal Affairs Phan Dinh Trac paid a working trip to the UK from September 25 – October 2.
