Defence delegation visits Cuba

Havana (VNA) – Chief of General Staff of the VietnamPeople’s Army and Deputy Defence Minister Sen. Lieut. Gen. Phan Van Giang led adefence delegation to visit Cuba from September 8-11 at the invitation of his Cubancounterpart Sen. Lieut. Gen. Alvaro Lopez Miera.

At a meeting on September 9, Gen. Miera lauded the Vietnamesedelegation’s visit, describing it as an evidence of the loyal friendshipbetween the two armies.

The visit will help foster defence cooperation between the twocountries, he said.

For his part, Giang reiterated that the VietnameseParty, State, people and army remember the support and wholehearted friendshipthe Cuban Party, Government, people and the Cuba Revolutionary Armed Forces hasprovided Vietnam over the years.

Vietnamese leaders, peopleand armed forces keep in mind President Fidel Castro’s saying “For Vietnam, weare ready to shed our blood,” showing the great support of the Cuban Party,State, people and armed forces for the Vietnamese people at the most difficulttime of the Vietnamese liberation war, he said.

The same day, member of thePolitburo, member of the State Council and Minister of the Cuba RevolutionaryArmed Forces, Sen. Lieu. Gen. Leopoldo Cintra Frias and a high-rankingdelegation of the Cuba Revolutionary Armed Forces had talks with Sen. Lieut.Gen. Phan Van Giang and the Vietnamese delegation.


The two sides agreed toexpand bilateral cooperation and experience sharing to consolidate the ties betweenthe two countries and two militaries.-VNA
