Hanoi (VNA) – The Vietnam Social Security (VSS) hasshared the database of 24 million households buying health insurance with theMinistry of Health, a move aimed to better health insurance management andhealth care activities.

A document to hand over the database was signedby the two sides’ representatives at a ceremony in Hanoi on May 15.

VSS Deputy Director General Pham Luong Son saidthe VSS built the database of health insurance buying households, one of thesix national databases, in two years. Updates are still being made to ensurethat the database is as adequate and reliable as possible, serving theimplementation of social welfare policies, including health insurance.

He added the database provision is meant toensure that in the near future, the health of each people will be cared by adoctor or a medical establishment, thus they can have the best access tomedical services right at the grassroots level.

The database sharing among all ministries andsectors is necessary to provide a specific code for each insurance buyer, eradicating the duplication of insurance cards. It will also help manage thespending of the health insurance fund.

Meanwhile, it is also important for the VSS andthe Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs to make social welfarecards which will combine social insurance books and health insurance cards, Sonadded.-VNA
