Farmers in the province cultivate three main food crops: winter-spring, summer-autumnand autumn-winter.
Local ethnic people were supported to switch from rice to hybrid maize or othershort-day food crops in fields suffering from water shortage, which bring inbetter economic efficiency. They have also used new high-yield hybrid rice andmaize varieties in the three crops.
Relevant agencies have guided local farmers in cultivation and diseaseprevention techniques, contributing to high yields of rice and maize, at 6.3tonnes per hectare for rice and 5.1 tonnes per hectare for maize.
Currently, Dak Lak farmers are rushing off their feet to repair irrigationsystems and prepare soil and field for the 2017-2018 winter-spring crop.-VNA
