Da Nang joins Resilient Cities

The central city of Da Nang has officially become a member of the 100 Resilient Cities network initiated by US-based Rockefeller Foundation.

The information was announced by thecity’s Steering Committee for the Response to Climate Change and SeaLevel Rise on December 5.

According to thecommittee, Da Nang was among nearly 400 cities across six continentsapplying for the 100 Resilient Cities challenge launched in May thisyear.

A press release by Rockefeller Foundation inNew York on December 3, to join the network, cities were required tosubmit their visions, needs and plan to build resilience in a way thatconnects government, private sector and civil society while specificallyaddressing the needs of their poor and vulnerable citizens.

Da Nang and other 32 cities named in the list represent a diversity ofurban resilience needs and as the inaugural members of the 100Resilient Cities network, they have much to share with and learn fromeach other, said Dr. Judith Rodin, President of Rockefeller Foundation.

“We are excited to get to work so that these dynamicgroups of cities are better prepared to withstand the shocks andstresses of our disruptive world,” she said.

Lastyear, Da Nang was selected as an APEC city for a Low-Carbon Model TownProject at the 44th APEC energy meeting in Washington DC .
