Da Nang: Infrastructure geared up for APEC Economic Leaders’ Week

The central city of Da Nang is stepping up efforts to gear up infrastructure for the APEC Economic Leaders’ Week, which is only less than six months ahead.

Da Nang (VNA) – Thecentral city of Da Nang is stepping up efforts to gear up infrastructure forthe APEC Economic Leaders’ Week, which is only less than six months ahead.

Aside from nearly 30 roads already upgraded, twoimportant transport facilities which are a new terminal of Da NangInternational Airport and a tunnel in the west of the Han River Bridge havebeen put into use.

The construction of another tunnel under DienBien Phu and Nguyen Tri Phuong streets is being accelerated.

Da Nang has also given a facelift to 28 streets,built and repaired public toilets, placed an additional 167 street dustbins,and added ornamental plants along tourist roads.

The Da Nang Water Supply Company said it alsofinished upgrading water supply infrastructure to serve the APEC EconomicLeaders’ Week.

The preparation of other structures is alsobeing speeded up to ensure they are completed on schedule.

Nguyen Minh Vu, Standing Vice Chairman of theAPEC 2017 National Secretariat, said the hosting of the APEC Economic Leaders’Week will help popularise Da Nang as a city of marine and MICE tourism. It willalso help improve local officials’ and residents’ integration capacity and expandthe city’s external relations.

Established in 1989, APEC now comprises 21economies, namely Australia; Brunei; Canada; Chile; China; Hong Kong, China;Indonesia; Japan; the Republic of Korea; Malaysia; Mexico; New Zealand; PapuaNew Guinea; Peru; the Philippines; Russia; Singapore; Chinese Taipei; Thailand;the United States; and Vietnam.

Vietnam joined APEC in 1998 and used to hostAPEC events in 2006. 

Activities of APEC Vietnam 2017, themed“Creating New Dynamism, Fostering A Shared Future”, are held in many localitiesacross the country, including Hanoi, Da Nang, Ho Chi Minh City, Hoi An (QuangNam province), Can Tho, Ha Long (Quang Ninh province) and Nha Trang (Khanh Hoaprovince).-VNA

Running from August 4 to September 2, under the hashtag #TuHaoVietNam, the campaign invites participants in two categories: “I Love My Country” video clips and “I Love My Country” check-in photos.

With a tight 13-month deadline, the move is under a strategic and urgent policy to bridge educational gaps, train the local workforce, and shore up territorial sovereignty in some of the country’s most remote areas.
