Da Nang gears up for APEC 2017

The central coastal city of Da Nang has been working to improve necessary infrastructure in preparation for the APEC Summit Week in November.

Da Nang (VNA) – The central coastal city of Da Nanghas been working to improve necessary infrastructure in preparation for theAPEC Summit Week in November.

Noticeable construction projects include turning themunicipal exhibition centre into an APEC press centre, upgrading the Tien SonSports Palace to host the APEC gala dinner, and building roads to facilitatetraffic. A new terminal at Da Nang International Airport has also beencompleted for the occasion.

Communications and English courses have been organised forpublic servants, while the “Da Nang smile” campaign has been launched topromote civilised lifestyle among residents in a bid to make each of them acultural ambassador of the city.

Security preparations, including the prevention of fires anddiseases, are underway.

Last year, the Government allocated 400 billion VND (17.9million USD) from the central government budget to support Da Nang’spreparations to host the 2017 APEC Summit.

During the week spanning from November 6 to 11, heads ofstate and CEOs from 21 APEC member economies will gather at the city for thekey event of the APEC Year 2017.-VNA

“I Love My Country” media campaign launched

Running from August 4 to September 2, under the hashtag #TuHaoVietNam, the campaign invites participants in two categories: “I Love My Country” video clips and “I Love My Country” check-in photos.

With a tight 13-month deadline, the move is under a strategic and urgent policy to bridge educational gaps, train the local workforce, and shore up territorial sovereignty in some of the country’s most remote areas.
