Cuban leaders determined to develop traditional friendship with Vietnam

Havana (VNA) –
Cuban Party and Stateleaders affirmed their determination to develop the traditional friendship withtheir Vietnamese counterparts while hosting Politburo member Vo Van Thuongduring his visit to Cuba on November 2-6.

Thuong, who is also head of the Communist Partyof Vietnam (CPV) Central Committee’s Information and Education Commission, metRaul Castro, First Secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba (CPC) CentralCommittee and President of the Council of Ministers. 

He later met with Miguel Diaz Canel Bermudez,First Vice President of the State Council and Council of Ministers and LazaraMercedes Lopez Acea, Secretary of the Havana Party Committee.

The two sides agreed to increase delegationexchanges and experience sharing, improve the operational efficiency of theinter-governmental committee, expand economic partnerships and promoteinvestment cooperation.

They hoped to conclude negotiations as soon aspossible to reach the signing and ratification of the Vietnam-Cuba new tradeagreement, creating a legal foundation to increase two-way trade to 500 millionUSD in the next five years.

Vietnam and Cuba also agreed to prepare for thefourth theoretical workshop between the two parties and activities to celebratethe 45th anniversary of late Cuban leader Fidel Castro’s visit to Quang Triprovince. 

Raul Castro invited CPV General Secretary NguyenPhu Trong to visit Cuba in 2018.

During the visit to Cuba, the Vietnamese Partydelegation also visited the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples, theUniversity of Information Science and Technology, and some economic-tourismfacilities in Matanzas province.-VNA
