Havana (VNA) – Vietnam’s resistance war against the US for national salvation was brought to life through emotive artworks at the exhibition “Vietnam, Victory!”, which opened at Galería Tomy in Havana, Cuba on April 21.

Organised by Juventud Rebelde (rebellious youth) newspaper, the event is not only a tribute to the 65th founding anniversary of Vietnam–Cuba diplomatic relations, but also part of activities in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification of Vietnam (April 30, 1975 – 2025).

In the historic days of April 1975, as news of victories from South Vietnam reached Cuba, the Latin American nation shared in the joy as if it were its own. Downed US aircraft and newly liberated regions became endless sources of inspiration for Cuban artists.

Juventud Rebelde served as a special bridge bringing images of a heroic Vietnam closer to the Cuban people through powerful and thought-provoking political cartoons.

A highlight of the exhibition is a series of works by late artist Manuel Hernández Valdés, who was posthumously awarded the National Prize for Plastic Arts 2024. With a masterful hand and a passionate heart, he vividly captured key moments of the Vietnamese people's resistance war, especially the historic events on April 30, 1975, which marked the Liberation of the South and National Reunification. His drawings are not just historical records, but heartfelt tributes from a Cuban artist and a true friend of Vietnam.

The exhibition offers a chance to look back on the special relations between the two nations, forged during the most difficult times.

♕ It serves as a poignant reminder of the close-knit and enduring solidarity between Vietnam and Cuba, which has overcome all geographical distances and the test of time. In the Vietnam–Cuba Friendship Year 2025, the historic brushstrokes once again affirm that though separated by half the globe, the two nations always stand as brothers./.
