COVID-19: additional 10,489 cases logged on September 16

Vietnam recorded 10,489 new COVID-19 cases in the past 24 hours to 5pm September 16, taking the total number of infections to 656,129, according to the Ministry of Health.

Hanoi (VNA) -  Vietnam recorded 10,489 newCOVID-19 cases in the past 24 hours to 5pm September 16, taking the totalnumber of infections to 656,129, according to the Ministry of Health.

Among the new cases, there were seven imported and10,482 local infections.

HCM City still topped the list with 5,735 newinfections, followed by neighbouring Binh Duong province with 2,998, DongNai (567), Long An (281), and Kien Giang (198). The capital city of Hanoi reported15 cases.

A further 10,901 recoveries were reported onSeptember 16, taking the total number of patients given the all-clearto 423,551.

There were also 234 fatalities during the day, whilelocalities added five deaths from previous days, raising total death toll to16,425 or 2.5 percent of the national caseload.

There are currently 5,750 patients in seriousconditions./.

Health sector calls on people to donate blood

During the peak months of July and August 2025, the National Institute of Haematology and Blood Transfusion (NIHBT) needs at least 90,000 units of blood to supply 180 hospitals in the northern region. However, despite continuous efforts, the reserve blood is still short of 30,000 units.
