Contributors to HIV fight honoured with Red Ribbon Awards

Organisations and people who have greatly contributed to HIV/AIDS prevention and control in Vietnam were honoured with the Red Ribbon Awards in Ho Chi Minh City on November 25.

HCM City (VNA) – Organisations and people who have greatly contributed toHIV/AIDS prevention and control in Vietnam were honoured with the Red RibbonAwards in Ho Chi Minh City on November 25.

Theawards aim to promote communications to eradicate stigma and discriminationagainst HIV carriers, and call on celebrities, media and local authorities tosupport people with HIV and vulnerable groups.

They alsolook to encourage HIV-infected people’s positive lifestyle, promote HIV treatment,and raise public awareness of relevant issues.

At theceremony, Deputy Director of the Ministry of Health’s Department for HIV/AIDSPrevention and Control Hoang DinhCanh said over the last 30 years, Vietnam hassignificantly reduced stigma and discrimination against HIV carriers.

However,the stigma still exists under various forms, which has hampered people with HIVand suspected HIV carriers’ access to consultation, testing and treatmentservices, as well as their relatives’ access to preventive measures.

He calledon the entire society to take concrete actions to eliminate stigma anddiscrimination while supporting people with HIV.

The RedRibbon Awards was launched in 2015 by the Vietnam Network of People Living withHIV/AIDS.

Vietnam identified more than 227,150 people withHIV by the end of 2015, and estimates that there are about 254,000 HIV carriers in the country./.

“I Love My Country” media campaign launched

Running from August 4 to September 2, under the hashtag #TuHaoVietNam, the campaign invites participants in two categories: “I Love My Country” video clips and “I Love My Country” check-in photos.

With a tight 13-month deadline, the move is under a strategic and urgent policy to bridge educational gaps, train the local workforce, and shore up territorial sovereignty in some of the country’s most remote areas.
