Locatedin Long Phu district in the Mekong Delta province of Soc Trang, the80-billion-VND (3.7 million USD) facility is expected to be completed inMarch 2016 and will be capable of accommodating ships of up to 1,000gross tonnages.

Construction of the Long Phu 1Power Plant began in 2011; the first turbine is scheduled to go intooperation in 2018 and the second one year later.

Long Phu 1 is the first plant at the Long Phu Power Centre, which wasapproved in 2007, including three plants with a combined capacity of4,400 megawatts.-VNA
