Hanoi (VNA) – Leaders of Cambodia, Australia and Mongolia have extendedcongratulations to General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam CentralCommittee Nguyen Phu Trong on his election as State President.

In his congratulatory letter,Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen expressed his belief that withthe President’s tireless efforts and long-term vision, Vietnam willmake more progress, towards national industrialisation and modernisation.

Hun Sen also noted his delight towork, together with President Trong, to deepen the sincere relationship betweenVietnam and Cambodia, inthe spirit of good neighbourliness, traditional friendship, and comprehensive,sustainable and long-term cooperation, for the sake of their people, as well asfor regional peace, stability and prosperity.

Australia’s Governor-General Peter Cosgrove congratulated the Partychief on his election as President, and highlighted the time-honouredrelationship between Vietnamand Australia.

The bilateral ties have beenconsolidated through people-to-people exchange, socio-economic cooperation aswell as development cooperation, and the sharing of viewpoints on how to copewith regional and global challenges, he said.

Cosgrove said he believes that afterVietnam and Australia established the strategic partnership in March 2018, theywill continue to stand side by side for a stable, open and prosperous region.

On this occasion, MongolianPresident Khaltmaa Battulga also cabled a message of congratulations to PartyGeneral Secretary and President Trong.

Party GeneralSecretary Nguyen Phu Trong was elected as State President for the 2016-2021tenure during a plenum of the 14th National Assembly's sixth session on October23.

After the resultsof the vote were announced, the new President had a swearing-in ceremony,vowing to stay absolutely loyal to the nation, people, and the Constitution ofthe Socialist Republic of Vietnam, and to exert every effort to complete allmissions assigned by the Party, State, and people. –VNA
