Conference spotlights curriculum development, assessment design for future-ready students

Hanoi (VNA) – The Vietnam National Institute of Educational Sciences (VNIES) and the UK's Cambridge University Press and Assessment (CUPA) co-hosted a conference, titled ‘Inspiring international – Curriculum development and assessment design for future-ready students’ in Hanoi on June 24.

In today’s age of global knowledge and technology, an interconnected network and global awareness are increasingly viewed as major and sought-after assets. With the current labour market requiring graduates to have foreign language and intercultural skills to be able to interact in a global setting, schools and institutions are placing more importance on international integration.

However, it is critical to be mindful of the challenges that this can bring. It can introduce alternative ways of thinking, it can question education models, and it can have an impact on governance and management.

ꦐ Bringing together policymakers and educators, the hybrid conference provided a platform for understanding challenges and identifying the benefits of international integration through best practice in assessment and evaluation, integrated curriculum development and content and language integrated learning (CLIL).

It consisted of three sessions – Curriculum Development and Assessment Design; Integrated Curriculum Implementation; and Developing Assessment Standards for a Competency-based Curriculum.

The event saw lively discussions by a number of speakers from the CUPA, VNIES and Cambridge Assessment International Education. Keynote speakers included Dan Bray, Director of the Assessment at Cambridge Assessment International Education; and Ta Ngoc Tri, Vice Director General of the Department of Primary Education at Vietnam's Ministry of Education and Training.

Concludingthe conference, the two organisers signed a memorandum of understanding andhad a discussion about their action plan for 2022.

Over the past 15 years, the CUPA and the Ministry of Education and Training have cooperated in multiple aspects, including English language training, the teaching of math and science in English, and training programmes to acquire international degrees and certificates for both teachers and students.

The CUPA is developing the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) training curricula in Vietnamese language, with textbooks expected to be completed in 2023 and the first IGCSE exam could be held in 2026, according to the CPUPA./.

“I Love My Country” media campaign launched

Running from August 4 to September 2, under the hashtag #TuHaoVietNam, the campaign invites participants in two categories: “I Love My Country” video clips and “I Love My Country” check-in photos.

With a tight 13-month deadline, the move is under a strategic and urgent policy to bridge educational gaps, train the local workforce, and shore up territorial sovereignty in some of the country’s most remote areas.
