Hanoi(VNA) – Chairwoman of the National Assembly Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan expected theparliaments of Vietnam and Canada will make concerted effort to further deepenthe two countries’ relations in a reception hosted for Canadian Ambassador toVietnam Ping Kitnikone on January 9.

Ngan said sheappreciates and supports Canada’s foreign policy towards strengthening linkswith the world and the Asia-Pacific and attaching much importance to ties withVietnam and ASEAN.

She also hoped thetwo legislative bodies will make concerted effort to further develop thenation’s ties in the spirit of the Joint Statement on the establishment ofcomprehensive partnership between Vietnam and Canada for the benefit of theirpeople, particularly in the fields of security-defence, sustainabledevelopment, environmental protection and response to climate change.

The NA leader highlyspoke of the Canadian parliament and government’s great focus on genderequality, feminism and child protection that are priorities in the country’sboth domestic and foreign policies.

Ngan extended hergreetings and invitation to Canada’s speakers of Senate and House of Commons tovisit Vietnam.

She thanked Canadafor its new ODA projects to help Vietnam respond to climate change and foodsafety issues and improve the capacity of agricultural cooperatives.

Canadian AmbassadorPing Kitnikone, for her part, expressed her delight that the two countries havemaintained all-level visit exchanges, including visits of the NA delegations,which would enhance information exchange and mutual understanding of the twosides.

Kitnikone affirmedthat Canada’s Senate and House of Commons will send representatives to attend the26th Annual Meeting of the Asia-Pacific Parliamentary Forum(APPF-26) that will take place in Hanoi next week.

The two sides laterexchanged views on several issues of mutual concern. The Vietnamese NAchairwoman showed her gratitude for Canada, as a key member of G7 and G20, forsupporting ASEAN and Vietnam’s stance in the East Sea issues, and backing thesettlement of territorial disputes in the waters through peaceful means in linewith international laws.-VNA
