Hanoi (VNA) - The NationalAssembly (NA)’s Standing Committee has adopted a resolution on additionalfunding for the purchase of rice to refill the national stockpile.

A total of 274billion VND (11.8 million USD) from the 2020 State budget will be used to purchase the rice and offsetvolumes taken from thestockpile for emergency relief and assistancefrom June 1, 2019 to May 31, 2020.

The purchasewill come to 23,000 tonnes.

The NA Standing Committee also urged relevantministries and agencies to properly and effectively manage and use nationalreserves.

Earlier this week, the Governmentdecided to assist five central provinces hit hardest by the devastatingfloods in recent days, with 5,000 tonnes of rice sent from the national stockpile. Each province will receive 1,000tonnes.

The historic flooding had killed 111people and left 22 missing as of October 21, according to the Central SteeringCommittee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control./.
