Clean water supplies for AO victims in Hue

A network of piping to supply fresh water has recently been completedwith funding provided by the Vietnam-US Dialogue Group on Agent Orange.

It was inaugurated on Mar. 16 in A Luoi District in the central province of Thue Thien-Hue .

This is the first time the group has sponsored a project in Vietnam to supply clean water.

The project in Dong Son commune got underway on October 12 last year,at a total cost of 1.5 billion VND. It will ensure fresh watersupplies for the ethnic minority people who live in the area, which isnear A So Airport.

A So airport was built by theU.S. during the 1960s, which is now one of the most badly AgentOrange contaminated areas in Vietnam .

In recent years, the Group has funded a host of projects to support local people living in the immediate area.

First established in 2007 as an initiative of prominent citizens,scientists and policy makers of both sides, the Group has strived toraise awareness of the issue in the US and has tirelessly encouraged theinternational community to help solve the problem.-VNA
