Beijing (VNA) – Major Chinese media outlets, including the Xinhua News Agency, People’s Daily, China Central Television (CCTV), and Global Times, have provided extensive coverage of the ongoing state visit to Vietnam from April 14-15 by General Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and President of China Xi Jinping.

The reports featured rich multimedia content and emphasised the symbolic importance of high-level diplomatic ceremonies and the friendly, cooperative atmosphere between the two countries.

The Chinese media underlined that this is Xi’s first overseas trip in 2025 and his first visit to a neighbouring country following the recent Central Conference on Work Related to Neighbouring Countries. The visit has garnered significant attention from the international community as a strategic diplomatic engagement between the two Parties and countries, expected to have a lasting impact on the future of China-Vietnam relations.

During the visit, leaders of the two countries have held in-depth discussions on shared issues, strategies, and the future direction of relations between the two Parties and nations, while outlining a new plan for building the China-Vietnam Community with a shared future.

The visit coincides with the 75th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the two nations. As two neighbouring socialist countries with deep historical and geographical links, China and Vietnam now stand at a pivotal new starting point in the bilateral relationship. In recent years, cooperation between the two countries has steadily advanced, grounded not only on shared ideals and developmental goals but also on practical needs, particularly in aligning complementary strengths and sharing resources in areas such as economy, infrastructure, and industrial supply chains.

At his official talks with General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Central Committee To Lam, Xi extended warm congratulations to Vietnam on the 95th founding anniversary of the CPV, 80 years since the country’s founding, and the 50th anniversary of national reunification. He reaffirmed China’s commitment to a friendly policy towards Vietnam and considering the country as a priority in its neighbourhood diplomacy. He voiced strong support for Vietnam’s prosperity and the happiness of its people.

According to Xinhua, following the talks, the leaders reviewed and heard a brief introduction of 45 cooperation agreements signed by various ministries, agencies, and localities, underscoring the visit’s diverse and comprehensive outcomes.

Meanwhile, in a separate meeting with Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, Xi hailed Vietnam’s economic and social development achievements, including its stable and impressive economic growth. The top leader of China extended his best wishes for the successful organisation of the upcoming 14th National Congress of the CPV and expressed his hope for Vietnam’s continued progress towards a prosperous and modern future.

Xi pledged that China is willing to expand its imports of Vietnamese agricultural products and support high-quality investment by Chinese enterprises in Vietnam. He proposed the joint organisation of cultural exchange activities within the Year of Vietnam–China Humanistic Exchange, the launching of “Red Journey", and closer collaboration in education and healthcare to deliver tangible benefits to both countries' people. He also called for the two sides to proactively advance cooperative projects, manage maritime differences in line with high-level consensus, and promote maritime cooperation to safeguard regional peace and stability.

In his meeting with National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man, Xi expressed his delight at witnessing Vietnam’s significant achievements over nearly four decades of Doi Moi (Renewal). He commended the solid foundation of friendship between the two Parties and nations, and held that both countries are entering a crucial phase of strategic development.

The Chinese leader agreed on the need to enhance exchanges via Party, the National People's Congress/National Assembly, and the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference/Vietnam Fatherland Front channels. He stressed the importance of sharing legislative experience and jointly building a robust legal framework for major cooperation projects, including the construction of three standard-gauge railway lines connecting the two countries.

He expressed his desire for enhanced experience exchanges between the specialised bodies of the two legislatures in building a socialist rule-of-law state and further promoting people’s democracy. He also called for increased thematic legal exchanges, joint efforts to uphold the tradition of cooperation between the two Parties, and stronger people-to-people ties.

Xi also advocated for enhanced multilateral cooperation and effective management of differences at sea to continuously consolidate and advance the friendly neighbourliness, helping promote the China–Vietnam community with a shared future that carries strategic significance./.
