China has voiced its support for the second summit between US President Donald Trump and Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) leader Kim Jong-un in Hanoi from February 27-28, the Global Times said.

Hanoi (VNA) – China has voiced its support for the second summitbetween US President Donald Trump and Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK)leader Kim Jong-un in Hanoi from February 27-28, the Global Times said.

The DPRK-USA Hanoi Summit Vietnam kicked off on February 27, drawing theattention of the whole world. There is a symbolic significance to have thismeeting convened in Hanoi, an article on the Global Times wrote. Despite beinga staunch foe of the US in the past, Vietnam now has the best relations withthe American country among all socialist countries.

On the threshold of the summit, US President Donald Trump tweeted “Vietnam isthriving like few places on earth. The DPRK would be the same, very quickly, ifit would denuclearise”.

The change of Vietnam, from enemy to friend of the US, is appealing to theDPRK, according to the Global Times.

It also said that for socialist countries to advance reform and opening-up,they must develop ties with the west, particularly the US. Like Vietnam, if theDPRK wants to branch out its economy, it must better relations with the US. Neighbouringcountries like China and the Republic of Korea all support the DPRK to take thestep.-VNA
