China, Myanmar to bolster ties

China and Myanmar have agreed to uphold the principle of mutual respect and win-win cooperation for the sustained, healthy and steady development of bilateral relations.

Beijing (VNA) – China and Myanmar have agreed to uphold theprinciple of mutual respect and win-win cooperation for the sustained, healthyand steady development of bilateral relations.

Xinhua news agency reported that during their talks in Beijing on April10, Chinese President Xi Jinping told Myanmar President U Htin Kyaw that China willwork with Myanmar to synergize the two nation's development strategies, andpush forward cooperation in trade, investment, infrastructure, energy,agriculture, water conservancy, electricity, finance and border economiccooperation zone.

"China will work with Myanmar to implement key cooperative programssuch as Kyaukpyu Special Economic Zone and connectivity projects," Xi wasquoted by Xinhua as saying.

He also suggested that the two sides enhance coordination in multilateralframeworks, such as the United Nations, East Asia cooperation, as well as theLancang-Mekong Cooperation Framework.

President U Htin Kyaw expressed thanks for China’s help for Myanmar in theprocess of national reconciliation and socio-economic development.

Following the talks, the two Presidents witnessed the signing of documentson bilateral cooperation on economics, health, transport, sports and forestry,among others.

The same day, the two countries reached agreement on an oil pipelineafter nearly a decade of negotiations. The deal between PetroChina and theMyanmar Government will allow the energy giant to import and transport oil fromBengal bay to a newly-built refinery in Yunnan province. The pipeline has acapacity of 260,000 barrels per day.

U Htin Kyaw is on a six-day state visit to China from April 6 to 11 atthe invitation of his Chinese counterpart.-VNA
