Chief of VPA General Staff receives US Deputy Commander

Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army and Deputy Defence Minister Phan Van Giang hosted a reception on May 9 for Deputy Commander of the US Pacific Commander Bryan Fenton.

Hanoi (VNA) – Chief of the General Staff of theVietnam People’s Army (VPA) and Deputy Defence Minister Sen. Lieut. Gen PhanVan Giang hosted a reception in Hanoi on May 9 for Deputy Commander of the USPacific Command Bryan Fenton.

Speaking highly of defence ties between Vietnam and the USover the past years, Giang wished that both sides would work closely togetherto overcome post-war consequences in Vietnam, fulfill the United Nationspeacekeeping mission, and enhance collaboration in personnel training in navaland military medicine, search and rescue, and legal enforcement at sea.

Fenton, for his part, affirmed that the relationship betweenthe US and Vietnam has seen important progresses. He wished to continuereceiving the Vietnamese Defence Ministry’s support in storing medicalequipment for humanitarian activities, search for remains of US servicemenmissing in action in Vietnam, and launch of the level-2 field hospital in SouthSudan.
