– Sixteen domestic and foreign teams will compete in the international women’sbeach volleyball open tour on the pristine beach of Ha Thanh village of Tam Kycity’s Tam Thanh commune from June 14-17.

Vice Chairman of the TamKy City People’s Committee Nguyen Minh Nam said 14 teams from Hai Phong, KhanhHoa, Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang, Can Tho, Tam Ky and two teams from Singaporeand Thailand will take part in the tournament for total a cash prize of 100million VND (4,300 USD).

Teams will join around-robin in four groups with the top team qualifying for the quarter-final.Eight teams ranking second and third place in the groups will play a knock-outround for four berths in the quarter-final.

The final match will beplayed on June 17.

The tournament’sorganisers will also present awards for the best team; the best umpire and MissBeach Volleyball.

The event is part ofseries of cultural activities to boost summer tourism in the beach commune –10km from Tam Ky city in central Quang Nam province.

Local residents willjoin a coracle paddling race; cuisine competition and photo and paintingexhibition at Tam Thanh beach square from June 14-18.

Tam Thanh commune isknown as the first locale in Vietnam to have colourful murals painted on itsmoss-covered walls by artists from several foreign countries.

The commune also debutedthe first ever coracle painting road – displaying more than 100 coracles withocean lifestyle paintings along 2km coast line – during the summerfestival.-VNA
