Catholic women encouraged to develop country

The Vietnam Women’s Union (VWV) Central Committee held a meeting in Hanoi on November 19 with female delegates attending the sixth Congress of Vietnam Catholics for National Construction and Defence.

The event aims to encourage Vietnamese Catholic women who are lookingforwards to the 2013 Christmas Day to join the Party and the wholepeople in building and defending the country.

Hometo over 15 million members, the VWV along with the female Catholicfollowers have been making significant contributions to the nation’ssocio-economic development and political stability, said Chairwoman ofthe union Nguyen Thi Thanh Hoa.

Delegates affirmedthat they will continue upholding the spirit of mutual support andsolidarity, while actively participating in patriotic emulationmovements launched by the union.

Catholicism formsthe second largest religious community in Vietnam after Buddhism,numbering 5.7 million, followed by Hoa Hao (1.4 million), Cao Dai(808,000), Protestantism (734,000), Islam (73,000), and Brahmanism(56,000).-VNA

Running from August 4 to September 2, under the hashtag #TuHaoVietNam, the campaign invites participants in two categories: “I Love My Country” video clips and “I Love My Country” check-in photos.

With a tight 13-month deadline, the move is under a strategic and urgent policy to bridge educational gaps, train the local workforce, and shore up territorial sovereignty in some of the country’s most remote areas.
