Cat Bi airport’s second terminal construction given thumbs up
The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV) has approved a project to construct a second terminal at Cat Bi International Airport in the northern port city of Hai Phong.
Hanoi (VNA) – The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV) has approveda project to construct a second terminal at Cat Bi International Airport in thenorthern port city of Hai Phong.
The move aims to serve the growing numbers of passengers via the airport, whichis expected to reach 8 million by 2025.
According to the CAAV, investment will be sourced from various social sources.
The Cat Bi International Airport is expected to soon face overloading spurredby a substantial surge in passenger numbers. The number of passengers rose 42.5percent in 2016, while in the first three months of this year, the airport welcomed538,000 passengers and the figure is expected to reach 2.1 million by the endof this year.
The VietJet Aviation Joint Stock Company (Vietjet Air) is suggesting investing6 trillion VND (263.8 million USD) in the second terminal. The company willensure 30 percent of the figure with the remainder arranged by the Ho Chi MinhCity Development Bank (HDBank).
Cat Bi has become a 4E-level international airport under the InternationalCivil Aviation Organisation standards, a first-level military airport and astandby for Hanoi’s Noi Bai International Airport.-VNA
