Bangkok (VNA) – Candidatesꦿ for Thailand’s g✱eneral election began their registrations on April 3.

In Bangkok, whichhas 33 constituencies and holds the most parliamentary seats, most of the keyleaders and candidates from major Thai politicalparties were present at the Keelawes building 2 in the Thailand-Japan Stadium in Din Daeng district. Candidates are allowed to register by the end of April 7 toprepare for the general election that will take place on May 14. Currently,neither Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha nor his strong opponent, PaetongtarnShinawatra - one of the opposition Pheu Thai party’s top politicians, have not registered to run for the House ofRepresentatives seat. However, the Thai Constitution stipulates that apolitical party that wins at least 25 seats in the House of Representativeswill have the right to nominate a candidate for the premiership. Earlier, the UnitedThai Nation (UTN) Party officially nominated Prayut to be the party's numberone candidate for the post in the upcoming general election. To become the primeminister in the next term, the candidate will have to win at least 376 votes ofthe 500 MPs and 250 senators./.
