Can Tho Catholics Solidarity Committee launches 2015 plans

The Committee for Solidarity of Vietnamese Catholics (CSVC) of the Mekong Delta city of Can Tho held a meeting on March 10 to review the patriotic movement among the community and launch plans for 2015.

Atthe meeting, priest Phan Dinh Son, Chairman of the CSVC-Can Tho chapterreported that Catholic dignitaries and followers in the regionimplemented numerous practical measures in response to the patrioticmovement to promote economic development, reduce poverty, and ensuresocial order and safety in residential areas.

In 2015, theCSVC-Can Tho chapter, together with Catholic dignitaries will continueto promote the patriotic movement among the Catholic community in theregion, Tran Duc Hieu, Vice Chairman of the CSVC-Can Tho chapter stated.

Inaddition, it will gather and reflect legitimate aspirations of Can Thocity’s Catholic people and organisations to the Vietnam FatherlandFront.

The committee plans to hold a conference to honour good examples among the Catholic community in the third quarter of 2015.

Catholicismconstitutes the second largest religious community in Vietnam, behindBuddhism (over 12 million), with 5.7 million followers, followed by HoaHao (1.4 million), Cao Dai (808,000), Protestantism (734,000), Islam(73,000), and Brahmanism (56,000).-VNA
