A campaign aiming to tackle plastic waste in Vietnam was launched on January 24 in Hanoi.

Hanoi (VNS/VNA) - A campaign aiming to tackle plastic waste in Vietnamwas launched on January 24 in Hanoi.

Thecampaign, organised by UNDP in cooperation with the Vietnam Administration ofSeas and Islands, will last six months in both online and offline form in BinhDuong, Binh Dinh, Binh Thuan, Da Nang and Quang Ninh provinces.

Theorganisers will hold conferences on measures to replace or eliminate single-useplastic, develop local tourism in a sustainable way and guidance on theclassification of rubbish.

Atthe launching ceremony, the organisers introduced Trash Hunt, a mobileapplication that enables users to report and monitor indiscriminatedumping sites. Users can take photos and record the information on the map,which can inform local authorities and stakeholders.

Vietnamcurrently ranks fourth in the world for the amount of plastic waste,with approximately 730,000 tonnes of plastic waste going into the seaevery year.

Thecountry produces twice the amount of plastic waste as low-incomecountries./.

🍰 Vietnam contributes to international court's advisory opinion on climate change

As a key member of the core group of 18 countries, initiated by Vanuatu, Vietnam engaged in advocating for the UN General Assembly’s Resolution N.77/276, requesting for the ICJ’s advisory opinion. Following the resolution's adoption, Vietnam fully participated in all procedural steps for the first time, from submitting written proposals to presenting directly at the court’s hearings.

⛎ Hanoi to roll out policies supporting green transport transition

Under the plan, from 2025 to 2026, the city will complete mechanisms and policies to support businesses in switching to green vehicles, expand the electric and green-energy bus network, and build charging stations. The targeted proportion of green buses is set at 10% in 2025 and 20–23% in 2026.
