- Cambodian National Assembly President Heng Samrin wrapped up hisofficial visit to Vietnam on June 26 after four days busy with talks andmeetings with Vietnamese senior officials.

Heng Samrinand his high-ranking entourage from the Cambodian National Assembly visitedVietnam from June 23-26 at the invitation of Vietnamese NA Chairwoman NguyenThi Kim Ngan.

The CambodianNA leader had talks with his Vietnamese counterpart Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan; paidcourtesy visits to Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and President TranDai Quang; met with Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc and Secretary of HanoiParty Committee Hoang Trung Hai; and received President of the Vietnam-CambodiaFriendship Organisation Vu Mao.

He also tookpart in a grand ceremony to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Vietnam-Cambodiadiplomatic ties, and the third conference of Presidents of the frontorganisations of Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia; and attended an exchange withoutstanding youths and students from the three countries.

♎During thetalks and meetings, the two sides agreed to increase delegate exchanges at bothcentral and local levels for better coordination to implement their signed agreements.They will also share information and exchange experience and concrete measuresto timely solve problems arising in bilateral relations in the spirit of mutualunderstanding and trust, and in conformity with laws of Vietnam and Cambodia,international practice and the two nations’ traditional friendship.

The two sides agreed to maintain strong relations in allParty, State and people-to-people diplomacy channels. They will press aheadwith friendship activities and educate people from all walks of life,especially younger generations, on Vietnam-Cambodia solidarity, friendship andcomprehensive cooperation. 

They reached consensus about continuingnegotiations for the early signing of the Vietnam-Cambodia Border TradeAgreement to replace the one on Trade and Exchange of Goods and Services inBorder Areas inked in 2001. The Cambodian NA expressed its backing of more measures to facilitatethe licensing of Vietnam’s investment projects in Cambodia.

The two sides pledged to further enhance their cooperation indefence and security, and in combating smuggling and cross-border crimes; andpromote stronger coordination insearching for and repatriating remains of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers andexperts who were killed in action in Cambodia. 

Both sideswill create conditions for Vietnamese and Cambodian Governments as well asrelevant ministries, agencies and localities to complete the construction ofauxiliary border markers and poles along the common border line in 2017, andfinalise related dossiers on border demarcation and marker planting in linewith regulations of the Vietnam-Cambodia Joint Committee for Border Demarcationand Marker Planting, towards signing a legal document acknowledging outcomes ofthe work.-VNA
