Cambodia ceremony commemorates Vietnamese martyrs

Phnom Penh (VNA) – A delegation from the VietnameseEmbassy in Cambodia and other representative offices of Vietnam in Phnom Penhled by Ambassador Vu Quang Minh offered incense to martyrs at the Vietnam-CambodiaFriendship Monument on July 26 on the occasion of the 72nd Day ofWar Invalids and Martyrs (July 27).

At the ceremony, the delegation paid homage to Vietnamesevolunteer soldiers who fell down in Cambodia during the wartime while realizingtheir international mission.

Dozens of thousands Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and expertsdied in Cambodia, and the remains of many martyrs have not been found. TheVietnamese and Cambodian Governments have worked hard together towards the targetof completing the search and repatriation of the martyrs’ remains to theirhomeland in 2020.

According to the Steering Committee 515 under Military Zone9, over the years, in Kampong Chhnang province alone, Team K90 found remains of22 martyrs in the 2018-2019 dry season, raising the total gathered in thelocality since the 2001-2002 to 345.

The Vietnam Invalids andMartyrs Day, started in 1947, is a special chance for the entire country tocommemorate millions of martyrs and war invalids who sacrificed their lives andhealth during the wars, as well as an opportunity to call on the entirecommunity to support war invalids and martyrs’ families in acknowledgement oftheir contributions to the nation.-VNA
