Ca Mau (VNA) – The southernmostprovince of Ca Mau is striving to achieve its goal of earning 1.1 billion USDfrom exporting aquatic products this year.
As of mid-November, the figure neared 900million USD, up 8.5 percent annually, a positive signal as the shrimp sector facesa tough global market.
Chau Cong Bang, Vice Director of theprovincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, attributed thegrowth to rising materials supply that meets nearly 60 percent of total outputof shrimp processing for export.
The province’s industrial shrimp farmingarea now covers more than 9,600ha. Thanks to technological adoption, shrimpproduction accounts for 80 – 100 tonnes per ha each crop, raising the total toroughly 150,000 tonnes since the beginning of this year.
Local authorities are working to promotesustainable shrimp farming by spreading intensive farming models in tandem withenvironmental protection, closely controlling quality, issuing regulations toimprove the management of shrimp farming, waste treatment and breeding shrimpquarantine.
