Ca Mau: all fishing vessels equipped with VMS equipment

The southernmost province of Ca Mau said 100% of local fishing vessels have installed Vessel Monitoring System (VMS) equipment, as a result of drastic measures taken by the provincial authorities to fight illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing.

Ca Mau (VNA) – The southernmost province of Ca Mau said 100% oflocal fishing vessels have installed Vessel Monitoring System (VMS) equipment,as a result of drastic measures taken by the provincial authorities to fightillegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing.

The province has intensified educational activities on regulations regardingIUU fishing and required local ship owners to sign commitments to not violating foreignwaters.

Chairmanof the provincial People’s Committee Huynh Quoc Viet has emphasized that endingIUU fishing is a key task and ordered all relevant departments, agencies, local administrationsand units to continue making concerted efforts to implement the task and makegood preparations for an upcoming inspection of a delegation from the EuropeanCommission.

The EC delegation willvisit Vietnam later this month to check measures against IUU fishing.  

In2017, the EC issued a “yellow card” warning against Vietnamese fishery productsexported to the EU due to IUU fishing. The decision had an impact on the country's seafood exportsto the EU, which account for 16–17% of the country's annual seafood exportvalue./.

Under a draft to amend and supplement the Government's Decree 125/2020/ND-CP on administrative sanctions for violations of tax and invoice regulations, the Ministry of Finance has proposed classifying the failure to issue invoices into five different levels. Infraction levels will correspond to fines of 1 million VND to 80 million VND, depending on the nature and number of invoicing violations.
