Hanoi (VNA) - The eighth congress ofthe Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS) will take place in Hanoi on November 21-22, with1,250 delegates set to attend, heard a press briefing on November 13.
The VBS will review its work during 2015-2017, discusstasks for 2017-2022, and ratify its revised sixth charter during the congress.
Participants will also select members of the VBS PatronageCouncil and Executive Council for the 2017-2022 tenure.
In the next tenure, the VBS has nine tasks, witha focus on promoting the solidarity and development of the VBS in internationalintegration, monks and nuns training, as well as cultural exchanges andpeople-to-people diplomacy.
Most Venerable Thich Duc Thien, General Secretaryof the VBS Executive Council highlighted the achievements the VBS has made overthe past year, saying that its chapters have been established in all 63localities nationwide.
The VBS hosted the 2014 UnitedNations Day of Vesak. Pagodas have been built on Truong Sa (Spratly)Archipelago and in border areas as spiritual border markers safeguarding thenation’s territorial sovereignty, he said.
Associations of Vietnamese Buddhists have been formed in Japan,the Republic of Korea, and Angola while those in Laos and Cambodia have beenconsolidated.
