Body of missing crewman on oil tanker fire found

Hong Kong search and rescue team on January 11 found the body of a missing crewman in the fire of Vietnamese oil tanker Aulac Fortune near the coast of Lantau island off Hong Kong (China).

Hong Kong (VNA) – Hong Kong search and rescue teamon January 11 found the body of a missing crewman in the fire of Vietnamese oiltanker Aulac Fortune near the coast of Lantau island off Hong Kong (China).

The victim is believed to be Nguyen Van Cong, 35, a nativefrom the Mekong Delta province of Ben Tre. He was one of the two missingpersons in the incident that occurred on January 8.

The search for the remaining victim is still underway.

The 17,500-tonne vessel caught fire about one nautical mileto the south of Lamma island off Hong Kong when it was being refuelled by anoil barge.

There were 27 crew members on board, including 25 Vietnameseand two Hong Kong persons. The incident left one dead and two others missing.

Officials from the Vietnamese Consulate General in Hong Kongvisited the injured sailors in hospital and offered necessities to them.

Meanwhile, Hong Kong authorities and the owner of the vesselalso arranged accommodation to crewmen following the incident.-VNA
