Hanoi (VNA) – The Mekong Delta province of BacLieu should focus on its “spearheads” and review the building of the new-stylerural areas to make it more people-oriented and develop well, Prime MinisterNguyen Xuan Phuc said on February 26.

Speaking at a working session in Hanoi with key leaders ofthe province, PM Phuc also stressed that the province needs to develop qualityrice strains and develop the agriculture model of the combination of theintensive cultivation of rice and shrimp which is its comparative advantage.

For major projects in the locality, the leader ordered localauthorities to quickly implement them and develop industrial zones so as toaccelerate the shift of its economic structure, with attention paid to the protectionof the environment.

Regarding those on local and regional infrastructureprojects, he asked the Ministry of Transport to announce the zoning for thedevelopment of road, railway, and waterway, as well as to prioritise importantones. The socialisation of the resources, especially private investment, mustbe put into consideration, the leader stressed.

Besides, advantages in tourism must also be utilised tocontribute to the development of the locality, PM Phuc added.

Also at the session, he gave his ideas on proposals by theprovince and asked ministries to help Bac Lieu untangle the knots for the localsocio-economic development in the time to come.

For their part, Bac Lieu leading officials asked for the PM’ssupport so as to build and realise a project on the inter-subregion economicdevelopment on the Ca Mau peninsular. They called for the implementation ofprojects on building key roads that can help accelerate the regionalconnectivity.

Besides, officials also asked for support to the cleanenergy projects in the province which are expected to turn Bac Lieu into one ofthe country’s centres in this field./.
