Bac Lieu exhibition affirms Vietnam’s sovereignty over Hoang Sa, Truong Sa

More than 200 maps, documents and objects on Hoang Sa (Paracel) and Truong Sa (Spratly) archipelagos are on display at an exhibition that opened in the Mekong Delta province of Bac Lieu on May 15.

– More than 200 maps,documents and objects on Hoang Sa (Paracel) and Truong Sa (Spratly)archipelagos are on display at an exhibition that opened in the Mekong Deltaprovince of Bac Lieu on May 15.

The three-day “Vietnam’s Hoang Sa, Truong Sa – Historical and Legal Evidence”exhibition aims to affirm Vietnam’s sovereignty over the two archipelagos andreject allegations distorting history and China’s groundless claims over theislands.

The exhibited materials are in Chinese, Nom (oldVietnamese writing using Chinese characters) before 1975, woodblocks and ancientdocuments under the Nguyen dynasty (1802-1945) demonstrating Vietnam’s sovereigntyover Hoang Sa and Truong Sa archipelagos.

Maps of Vietnam and China published by western countriesfrom the 16th to the 20th centuries and those published by Vietnam and Chinaare also on display.

Many photos and documents reflect how Vietnamexercised and defended its sovereignty over Hoang Sa and Truong Sa.

Thematerials introduced at the exhibition show that the collection, research ofmaterials and evidence to affirm Vietnam’s sovereignty over the sea and islandshas been carried out for a long time.

ViceChairman of the provincial People’s Committee Vuong Phuong Nam highlighted thesignificance of the event, saying it aims to raise public awareness of the roleof sea and islands of the country, and promote national unity among communitiesand their determination to safeguard national sovereignty.

The exhibition helps the people better understand Party and Stateguidelines and policies on protecting the national sea and island sovereignty,he added. -VNA
