Hanoi (VNA) - The Civ🎶il Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV) has released its report on air transport operations during the peak season of the 2025 Lunar New Year (Tet) holiday, highlighting remarkable growth in both flight number and passenger volume.

According to CAAV statistics, from January 14 to February 12, 2025 (the 15th day of the 12th lunar month to the 15th day of the first lunar month), the total air passenger market reached approximately 7.3 million passengers, an 11.7% increase compared to the same period in 2024. Of this, international passengers accounted for 4 million, up 16.3%, while domestic passengers reached 3.3 million, marking a 6.6% rise. Cargo volume also grew to 96,000 tonnes, an increase of 9.4%. Vietnamese airlines transported over 4.8 million passengers, up 5.6%, and 34,000 tonnes of cargo, a 9.8% rise from the previous year. Specifically, international passenger transport exceeded 1.5 million, increasing by 3.4%, while international cargo transport reached over 15,400 tonnes, up 8.2%. Meanwhile, the number of domestic passengers surpassed 3.3 million, growing by 6.6%, and domestic cargo volume reached 18,500 tonnes, an 11.2% increase. During the official Lunar New Year holiday (from the 25th day of the 12th lunar month to the 5th day of the first lunar month), total air passenger volume reached 2.5 million, reflecting a sharp 17.8% rise compared to the same holiday period in 2024. Vietnam’s airports handled nearly 69,000 takeoffs and landings, up 9.5% year-on-year, with total passenger throughput reaching approximately 10.5 million, a 10% increase. Cargo volume also surged to over 114,600 tonnes, up 9.7% compared to the same period in 2024. The 2025 Lunar New Year peak season saw impressive growth in air transport operations compared to previous years, with significant increases in flight numbers and passenger and cargo volumes, CAAV leaders noted.

At major airports such as Noi Bai, Da Nang and Tan Son Nhat, passenger and cargo traffic saw at times by double-digit growth. Despite the high demand, operations, particularly at Tan Son Nhat International Airport, were well-coordinated, preventing congestion seen in previous years. Most importantly, absolute safety in aviation operations was maintained. While flight delays occurred early in the peak season due to adverse weather conditions, timely interventions by CAAV, along with the efforts of airlines, airports, and service providers, ensured overall service quality improvements. Passenger rights were upheld, and disruptions to operations were minimised. CAAV and airport authorities worked with the airlines in optimising flight schedules, managing resources effectively, and adding extra flights, including late-night services, to accommodate increased demand. Adjustments were also made to key routes, while real-time updates on seat availability and ticket pricing helped passengers make informed travel plans.

Following the Lunar New Year peak season, the aviation industry is now preparing for upcoming travel surges, including the April 30–May 1 holiday, the summer peak season, and Vietnam’s National Day on September 2. CAAV is working on comprehensive plans in collaboration with industry stakeholders to implement proactive measures, ensuring optimal services for travelers while maintaining security and safety standards. The aim is to further enhance service quality and ensure smooth travel experiences for all passengers./.
