Auto sales down 35 percent in April

The Vietnam Automobile Manufacturer Association (VAMA) reported on May 13 that its members sold 21,021 vehicles in April, a decrease of 35 percent against the previous month.

– The Vietnam Automobile Manufacturer Association (VAMA) reported onMay 13 that its members sold 21,021 vehicles in April, a decrease of 35 percentagainst the previous month.

Salesof tourist, commercial, and specialised cars dropped 36 percent, 32 percent,and 33 percent, respectively.

Domestically-assembled car sales in the monthfaced a drop of 29 percent and imported vehicles registered a reduction of 44percent.

In the first four months of this year, totalnumber of vehicles sold by VAMA members went up 23 percent year-on-year to99,273 units. Salesof tourism vehicles increased 38 percent, while commercial and specialised carsexperienced drops of 1 percent and 40 percent.

Thetotal number of vehicles sold between January and April excluded 22,968 units fromHyundai Thanh Cong, which is not a member of VAMA.  

Duringthe reviewed period, Toyota led the market with 23,155 vehicles. It wasfollowed by Hyundai Thanh Cong with 22,968 units, Mazda with 12,105 cars, andHonda with 10,443 cars. –VNA
