Phnom Penh (VNA) – TheAssociation of Vietnamese Cambodians in Mondolkiri province of Cambodia heldits first congress in Sen Monourom city on November 25.

At the event, Nguyen Van Duc was electedChairman of the association’s new eight-member executive board.

The association agreed on its plans fromNovember 2017 to 2020, with a focus on strengthening cooperation with Mondolkiriprovince’s authorities, authorities and offices of Vietnamese localitiesbordering Cambodia and Vietnam’s diplomatic offices in Cambodia.

Attention will be also paid to social andcharitable activities, and to help children learn not only Khmer but alsoVietnamese language.

The executive board pledged to soon rent a spaceto open a Vietnamese language class.

Speaking at the event, Chairman of theGeneral Association of Vietnamese Cambodians Chau Van Chi asked the associationto connect overseas Vietnamese in Mondolkiri.

He also expressed his hope that theVietnamese community here will abide by Cambodia’s law and follow the customsof Khmer people.

There are about 100 Vietnamese households inMondolkiri province.-VNA

“I Love My Country” media campaign launched

Running from August 4 to September 2, under the hashtag #TuHaoVietNam, the campaign invites participants in two categories: “I Love My Country” video clips and “I Love My Country” check-in photos.

With a tight 13-month deadline, the move is under a strategic and urgent policy to bridge educational gaps, train the local workforce, and shore up territorial sovereignty in some of the country’s most remote areas.
