ASEAN seeks ways to fight trans-national crime

The 9 th ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Transnational Crime (AMMTC) took place in Vientiane , the capital city of Laos , on September 17 to devise plans to enhance cooperation in combating transnational crime.

Minister of Public Security General Tran Dai Quang led a Vietnamesedelegation to the event, which saw the attendance of Lao Prime MinisterThongsin Thammavong.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, the LaoGovernment leader affirmed that trans-national crime remains a challengeand threat to the regional and global peace, which cannot be stoppedunilaterally by any country.

Therefore, cooperation among ASEANmember states in the field is of practical significance, not onlyprotecting regional and international peace and stability but alsoreflecting their unity in this matter, he said.

Laos will workclosely with other regional countries in the fight to ensure securityand peaceful life for residents as well as peace, stability anddevelopment of ASEAN nations, he affirmed.-VNA
