Arrests made relating to disturbance in Binh Thuan
Police in Phan Thiet city of the south central province of Binh Thuan have detained 12 people for alleged actions which created social disturbance at the provincial People’s Committee headquarters on June 10-11.

Thosepeople are residents in Phan Thiet city’s three wards of Lac Dao, Duc Long andDuc Thang and Ham Hiep commune in Ham Thuan Bac district. A person named NgoDuy Nam, born 1982 in Binh Phuoc province, was suspected to have paid others tocause the disturbance.
Mostof the detainees admitted that strangers offered them money, food and drinks tothrow stones and petrol bombs at authorised forces and damage the headquartersof the provincial People’s Committee and some other facilities. Thedisturbance occurred on June 10-11 as a group of people gathered and moved tothe provincial People’s Committee headquarters to protest a draft law onspecial administrative-economic units. Traffic in Phan Thiet city on those dayswas paralysed. Accordingto statistics, during the two days, 12 automobiles were burned while 18motorbikes and automobiles were destroyed in Bac Binh district. Meanwhile, 30police officers were injured and headquarters of the Binh Thuan Fire Police Departmentin Phan Ri Cua town of Tuy Phong district was seriously damaged. InPhan Thiet city, 23 automobiles and motorbikes were burned and one car wasdamaged. Protestors also destroyed the fence around the provincial People’sCommittee headquarters, as well as some parts of other provincial agencies.There were 44 wounded police officers, with most of them discharged fromhospital.-VNA
