Washington (VNA) – US President Donald Trump’s attendance at the APEC EconomicLeaders’ Meeting and his State visit to Hanoi from November 10-12 show that theUS wants to strengthen its ties with Vietnam in trade, economy and security.

The statement wasmade by the US National Security Advisor Lieutenant General H.R. McMaster in aninterview to reporters ahead of Trump’s trip to Asia from November 3-14.

According toMcMaster, one of the key topics for discussion during the visit in Hanoi willbe sketching out plans to define and boost the bilateral relationship.

At the APECEconomic Leaders’ Meeting, Trump will deliver a speech which will “include hisvision for a free and open Indo-Pacific region as well as the US relationshipwith countries in the region”.

He will emphasisethe importance of preserving sovereignty and maintaining international orderthat facilitates free, fair and reciprocal trade and economic relations.

The President willhave the opportunity to hear from other leaders about their concerns and theirideas about how APEC economies can work together to strengthen security andadvance mutual prosperity.

President Trump iscommitted to freedom of navigation as it has benefited all countries in andacross the Indo-Pacific region, McMaster said, adding that the richness ofcommerce and trade in the region is associated with freedom of navigation.-VNA
