APEC 2017: Prime Minister receives IMF Managing Director

PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc held a reception in the central city of Da Nang on November 10 for IMF Managing Director Christine Lagarde, who has been in Vietnam to attend the APEC 2017 Economic Leaders’ Week.

DaNang (VNA) – Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc held a reception inthe central city of Da Nang on November 10 for Managing Director of theInternational Monetary Fund (IMF) Christine Lagarde, who has been in Vietnam toattend the APEC 2017 Economic Leaders’ Week.

PMPhuc welcomed the IMF director’s attendance and ideas to meetings of the week,and spoke highly of IMF’s supervision, evaluation, and consultancy for Vietnamin macro-economic aspects, technical assistance, and human resource training.

Vietnamwill continue its efforts to stabilise the macro-economy, improve the investmentclimate, build a constructive government to serve enterprises and people, bettermarket economy institutions, restructure the economy and renovate the growthmodel, he said.

PMPhuc suggested IMF continue advising the Government of Vietnam on running the macro-economy,completing financial-monetary tools and restructuring the finance-banking sector.

Thegovernment leader also called on IMF to increase its technical assistance in thefields of Vietnam’s needs and enhance the capability of Vietnamese economic,finance and banking managers.

Forher part, Lagarde said besides financial assistance, IFM is considering thepossibility of providing more technical and training assistance for Vietnam.

Whileaffirming her support for the Vietnamese Government’s priorities in reducingsocial inequality and enhancing climate change adaptation, she suggestedVietnam improve labour productivity and competitiveness of the economy and promotewomen empowerment in economic development.-VNA
